What is missing?

Thanks to a friend's Facebook post I finally figured out what is missing from Christmas for me.

Things have certainly changed in my house in the last few years around this time of the year. Yes I still decorate the house and buy gifts and make fudge and cookies, mostly to give away, but for some reason it doesn't feel like Christmas. What could be missing I have wondered.

One of the things I like to do more than anything else is cook and plan family meals for special occasions. That's what is missing! I no longer have a family to cook for.

Perhaps next year I will rent one!

  1. I hear ya, Barbara! I, too, love to cook and REALLY love to cook for other people! After my son left home to join the Navy and I was on my own for the holidays, I would go over to the local Marine base and pick up a car-full of young Marines who had just completed boot camp and were not allowed to go home for the holidays yet. I would also invite my unattached friends and whoever else was at loose ends and we'd have a houseful of people, most of whom didn't know each other. I loved those holidays! So much fun... and I miss it. My son now has his own "family" (his partner of 12 years has a very large family who still all live in the area) and even though I'm invited when I'm here, it isn't the same. I miss the fun and excitement of cooking for others at this time of year. Maybe next year I'll rent a family, too :)

    1. Thanks Lois! I loved your story!! That escape plan we talked about still sounds like a really good idea!
